How to Find The Job of Your Dreams?

Maia Haas

Confucius said “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life”and he was right. Who has never dreamed of having a great job, of being an astronaut, a singer or a veterinary?

Over the years, our expectations have changed and now, we have to take into consideration many factors that affect our lifestyle and our job search. Finding the job of your dreams is not always easy. It is even more complicated to set objectives as our perspectives may change in a very short period. Actually, most of the people I know are not sure about their future and are constantly looking for other opportunities.

You may be in this period where you have to choose and decide what is the best career choice for you. Whether it is difficult for you to choose your orientation or not, here are several tips that you can use to set your objectives and achieve your dreams.

First of all, analyse your ambitions and ask yourself key questions. Philosopher Alan Watts said that the best way to find what you should do with your life was to ask yourself this important question: “What would you do if money were no object?” For example, if you win the lottery and could do whatever you want, what will you do with your life? Is money your main goal? These are questions that may help you to understand your aspirations.

Find what makes you happy in your life. For example, are you happy or proud when you make other people happy? Are you more attracted to the artistic field or scientific one? Do you feel better while working alone or in team?

Obviously, there may be different ideas and fields which your are interested in. Try to compare them, what is the main goal of a job in these fields? Do you have the right qualifications? Is it a job in which you can build your career? Try to analyse your dream job by breaking it down into its most basic components. It’s as if you had to explain this job to a child: what was funny and what are your main tasks? These basic components are essential to know what you should be looking for in a career.

Make your research about your dream jobs. You have to pay attention to the advantages but don’t forget to look for drawbacks. Be aware of what life looks like in that career path, whether it is professional or social life. All jobs don’t require the same personal investment.

Remember that even if you are not sure or you think that you made the wrong choice in your career choice, everything is not lost. It’s always time to learn and to adapt yourself. Don’t hesitate to look for another job or for another objective. You always have the choice, so think about it and make the good one for your future!
