7 tips to study at home successfully
After a day spent at school it is always hard to go back home and start, again, to study. However, you do not have the choice if you want to keep in mind the latest knowledge you learn during the day. Do not panic, if you are well organized you will handle it. Here are some tips to help you to study at home efficiently .
1.Set a schedule
It is the most important part. You need to create a week schedule in order to have a global view on your work. For instance, which subject you need to work on and the time you need for each lessons. These are the basics to learn how to be organized.
2. Prepare a good space to study
You need a desk or a table with a lot of space, in which you will be able to put all your books and laptop if necessary and of course you need quiet. Avoid places where you could be distracted by the TV, Facebook or your family.
3 . Set precise goals
Set goals means evaluate the amount of work that you want to do during each studying session. For instance, if 4 out of 6 lessons can be finished fast, finish them first in order to spend more time on the difficult subjects.
4. Be focused
Be interested and attentive to your subject, do not study when you are watching TV or other entertainment that could distract your mind from studying. In order to stay focused on your work, the “Pomodoro technique” can be a good method. For that, you have to study 25 minutes, then take a break of 5 minutes and repeat this process for 3 times. After that, you can make a longer break of 30-45 minutes.
5. Take breaks
When you’re feeling overwhelmed, take a short break, and after come back to study again. Sometimes you can have good ideas when we are not looking for it!
6. Avoid cramming
Studying the night before is almost never a good idea and it doesn’t work at all. In fact, even if you study properly, your brain need time to “digest” information and be really efficient.
7. Know what is your learning style
We can distinct three kinds of learning style: visual learner, verbal learner or kinesthetic learner. If you’re a visual learner, a tip is to highlight your notes and create revision cards. If you’re a verbal learner, you can listen to a song during your revision in order to associate a music to a lesson. If you are a kinesthetic learner, you could act out your notes. Your learning style is a big part of studying success because it will help you to gain time on your revision.
Above all, the most important advice is to enjoy studying because “Education is a progressive discovery of our own ignorance.” Will Durant
